Trackrod Rally Yorkshire 2014

DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR DERBYSHIRE DRIVERS IN YORKSHIRE

Steve Perez and Richard Hill made hay under in the North York Moors sunshine as they shared the major spoils at the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire on Saturday (September 27th). Unseasonably warm and bright weather greeted almost 160 crews contesting the Trackrod Historic Cup, for vehicles dating between the 1960s and mid-eighties, and the Trackrod Forest Stages - a completely separate rally - which includes more modern cars. Hill, from Chesterfield, was first to take victory, coming from behind with a late surge to overhaul 2013 winner Matt Edwards on the very final stage and secure victory by just 7.4 seconds on what had become a battle of two Escorts. Perez, who also hails from the town of the crooked spire, was next to taste the sweet smell of success but in different circumstances as he fended off a strong late challenge from fellow Ford Focus World Rally Car driver Paul Bird to win by an even narrower margin.
